Galway Sports Stars award winners named

THE CREAM of sporting talent in the county will be honoured for their achievements over the past year at the Galway Sports Stars Awards on Saturday night, January 23 at the Galway Bay Hotel.
One of Galway’s most successful companies, Medtronic, have come on board as new sponsors of what will be the 51st staging of the prestigious awards and special guest at the presentation banquet will be Connacht Head Coach Pat Lam.
The winners of this year’s awards have been announced and among the 22 recipients is Bosco McDermott, who is honoured in the Hall of Fame category. Remembered as one-third of Galway’s unbeatable full-back line alongside Enda Colleran and Noel Tierney during the three-in-a-row era, an outstanding sporting career includes five Connacht Senior Championship medals, three All-Irelands and a National League medal with Galway’s footballers, a successful tenure as Galway manager that brought Connacht SFC success in 1995 as well as honours on the course with Galway Golf Club, which he helped to Jimmy Bruen and Pierce Purcell Shield victories.
Corofin footballers will be honoured as the Team of the Year following their unforgettable All-Ireland Club final win and the completion of a three-in-a-row of county titles.
