Tuam’s Barry Egan won an Emmy with Baz and his Mammy

A TUAM-born TV director has won an Emmy for the series 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy.
Barry Egan from Dunmore Road is a director with Brown Bread Films, which makes the show starring Baz Ashmawy and his mother Nancy.
The show, currently airing its second series on Sky One, follows Ashmawy and his mammy to locations in Africa, Asia and the USA during which they undertake stunts not normally associated with mature Irish women.
The award was for the Non-Scripted Entertainment category and was presented on Monday night in New York.
Barry is son of Barry and Geraldine Egan of Dunmore Road, and formerly of C Egan and Co Garage.
He did a degree in drama in Trinity College, Dublin and later worked in television with RTE, the BBC, Channel 4 and Sky.
At present he is working on a project with RTE.
An Emmy Award, or simply Emmy, recognises excellence in the television industry, and corresponds to the Academy Award, the Tony Award, and the Grammy Award.
