Safety concerns threaten future of rural bus stops
RURAL transport services in the North Galway region could be curtailed if new legislation introduced to eliminate bus stops from roads with 100kph speed limits is implemented by the local authority.
Routes from Tuam, Headford, Milltown and Dunmore will be affected by the new measures, which have existing bus stops approved by the Gardaí, but now must get clearance from Galway County Council.
Director of Services for Roads Liam Gavin said the changes were merely a formalisation of the current process but were intended to make bus stops on public roads safer.
