Galway ladies top table after away win in mayo

WHILE not mathematically certain, Galway’s place in the Division 1 semi-finals was all but assured going into the final round of matches on Sunday.
Only an outlandish combination of results elsewhere, coupled with a heavy defeat to Mayo, could have denied them but that slim possibility was never on the cards as they ran out comfortable winners in Ballina.
This seven-point win, along with Cork’s defeat to Dublin, saw Galway top the table with five wins and one draw from their seven fixtures. It has been a hugely impressive return to the top flight for Galway with impressive consistency shown throughout the campaign, not to mention some superb performances on the road.
