Hurlers start season with walsh cup win in mullingar
A SCORING haul of 1-12 from Jason Flynn helped Galway hurlers to a hard-earned eight point win over Westmeath in their opening Bord na Mona Walsh Cup fixture played at Cusack Park, Mullingar on Sunday afternoon.
Manager Anthony Cunningham and his selectors Eugene Cloonan, Damien Curley and Pat Malone fielded an experimental line-up with senior starting debuts handed to five players — Colm Flynn, Padraig Mannion, Dean Higgins, Eanna Burke and Brian Molloy.
Both freetakers, Flynn for Galway and Westmeath’s Brendan Murtagh, were kept busy in the opening half as the Tribesmen opened up an 11-9 interval lead.
