Experimental galway too strong for gmit
By Billy Coss
MAYBE not an afternoon to draw too many definitive conclusions, but an assured performance from Galway nonetheless as another very experimental line-up accounted for GMIT with relative ease in Moycullen.
As a match, it was extremely low key and offered little to get excited about but as an exercise in getting valuable game-time under the belts of established players prior to the National League and giving a raft of new faces an opportunity to show their wares at this level of football, it more than served its purpose.
Regardless of Sunday’s outcome, Galway’s place in the FBD League final had already been guaranteed by wins in Sligo and Leitrim and their Section B programme ended with three wins from three and qualification for next Sunday’s final with Roscommon. Pre-season competitions may not be everyone’s cup of tea but a few hundred hardy souls filed through the gates for their January football fix on a bright, chilly winter’s day in Baile Dóite, the impressive home of Moycullen GAA club.
