Mourning the loss of billy oneill and billy kelly

THE DEATH occurred on Saturday last of Lt. Col. Billy O’Neill, legendary Galway GAA dual star of the 1950s.
A native of Carrigtwohill, Cork and a Cork county minor, junior and senior hurler, his decision to join the Army brought him to Galway with An Céad Cath at an early age and Cork’s loss was our gain.

MILLTOWN, where he was born, and Salthill where he lived for all his married life, are mourning the death, last Friday, of Billy Kelly, Dalysfort Road, husband of Catherine (née Feerick, Kilgevrin, Milltown); beloved father of Noelle, P. J., Linda and Colette; and also sadly missed by his sons-in-law Niall, Gareth and Patrick, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, extended family and a wide circle of friends.
Billy was a leading figure in the West of Ireland construction sector for many decades, through his work with Farraghers of Tuam, and he later held a senior position with the Board of Works.
He was also a prominent and successful footballer who crowned a loyal, totally committed playing career with his native Milltown by leading the club, as captain and goalkeeper, to a memorable victory in the 1961 County Junior Championship — extra significant because it won promotion for Milltown to the senior grade, and they have remained in the premier grade ever since.
