Former footballers flew back to snow and sun

FORMER Cortoon footballers, and cousins, Gary and Shane Gilmore, flew off to play with teams in opposite ends of the world this week. Gary went back to 40 degrees heat under the scorching sun of Western Australia while Shane will sometimes be experiencing -20 degrees in the frozen fields of Western Canada.
In December Gary flew back from their new home in Australia with his then fiancée Laura Maloney from Kildysart, Co Clare to get married during the holiday season. Meanwhile Shane and his fiancée Lynn Ryder from Dunmore, and their daughter Kayla (9), came back from Canada to spend Christmas with family and friends and they will make the trip again on July 11 when Shane and Lynn will get married here.
Lynn is daughter of Ann and Tommy Joe Ryder, Cloonagh, Dunmore while Shane is son of Mary and John Joe Gilmore, Gallagh, Cortoon.
Before they both emigrated to opposite ends of the earth Shane and Gary Gilmore were members of the Cortoon senior football team that beat near neighbours, and keen rivals, Tuam in the league final of 2009 and were narrowly defeated the previous year by Corofin in the county final of 2008.
