Corofin waiting on barna or st michaels
By Billy Coss
GALWAY club football’s showpiece day is guaranteed to have a new name in it this year but Barna and St Michael’s will have to do it all over again to decide who breaks new ground and advances to their first ever Senior Championship decider after an entertaining finish to the second of last Sunday afternoon’s semi-final double-bill at Tuam Stadium.
Corofin’s demolition of Milltown has resulted in the reigning champions being installed at a prohibitively short price of 1/14 to beat the eventual winners and retain the Frank Fox Cup.
None of that will concern either of these teams, of course, and they will remain focused on creating their own piece of history in next Sunday week’s replay at Moycullen.
As ever, drawn matches bring mixed emotions. Either side could have won it in an exciting finale and St Michael’s, in particular, will surely look back and wonder how they failed to go one better than their only previous semi-final appearances, against Dunmore MacHales in 1962 and Tuam Stars in 1988.
