Singing sarah happy to turn 100
By Tom Gilmore
As she prepares for her 100th birthday this weekend, Sarah McHugh is still singing songs she learned as a child. This friendly and talkative lady would have to have music coursing through her veins, as she was born where the Ranch House ballroom still stands at Cummer, Corofin on the N17.
Apart from her willingness to launch into a verse of An Irish Lullaby or Galway Bay, Sarah also loves playing cards with her friends in Stella Maris Nursing Home, Corofin, which is within a stone’s throw of the spot where she was born 100 years ago next Saturday. Her daughters Marguerite and Marie say the care that their mother has been getting has contributed to her good health and longevity.
