Revitalised Tuam Stars show their Championship pedigree

WHAT promised to be one of the weekend’s most competitive and evenly matched Senior Football Championship ties failed to live up to its billing as Tuam Stars’ scoring burst midway through the second half was enough to see off a Cortoon Shamrocks challenge that fell away badly.
Before that, it was tit-for-tat. A tight, intensely fought match hadn’t laid on a feast of scores and the pre-match predictions that this local derby would go down to the wire appeared on the money.
Cortoon quickly lost their way after an encouraging start to the second half, however, and had no answer once Tuam reeled off 1-4 without reply in an electric eight-minute spell that proved the decisive phase in the match.
