Plenty of Roses with strong Galway roots vying for Tralee title
GALWAY has taken the Rose of Tralee title three times and all eyes will be on the Rose waving the maroon and white flag in Kerry next week. Galway Rose Nicola Corcoran marks the return of the county to the Tralee finals after a ten-year absence. The 24-year-old from Ballyloughane, Renmore, is a special autism teacher in Doughiska in the city and originally entered the Galway Rose competition to raise money for
the Galway Autism Partnership.
There are a number of other Roses from around the world that Galway audiences can also offer support to, particularly Shrule girl Maria Walsh who will represent her adopted hometown, Philadelphia.
Maria, from Laragan, is the youngest daughter of Vincent and Noreen Walsh.
It’s no surprise that there’s a Galway girl returning to Ireland from Australia as the Melbourne Rose. Amanda Cannon is the daughter of John and Marion and comes from a farming background in Athenry where she grew up with her twin brother and older sister.
