Councillors complain about hurried selections on board
COUNTY councillors from the two counties complained at a meeting of the Galway-Roscommon Education and Training Board about the hurried way they had to decide on the five additional members being elected to the board at its first meetings in Athenry last week.
Ten organisations from the fields of business, education, students’ union, Foroige and others had nominated two members for consideration for election and five were eventually voted in.
But when sheets with the CVs of all those nominated were distributed among the elected members and they were told they had to vote on the five during that meeting, several members, including South Galway’s Cllr Anne Rabbitte and Roscommon Cllr Kathleen Shanagher, expressed their annoyance.
