Teacher cuts very likely in local schools, says Eamon O Cuiv
SEVERAL schools across North Galway are “very likely” to experience cuts in teacher numbers, according to a former Government minister.
Reports at the weekend suggested that seven schools in Co Galway and 11 in Mayo are due to lose a teacher when the new school year begins in late August and while the schools have not yet been named, Deputy Éamon O Cuív says some small schools in North Galway and South Mayo are likely to be hit.
Meanwhile Peter Mullen of the Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) says the cuts are “a disproportionate attack” on many small rural schools.
