Little John, Donegal’s first punk, makes his home in Tuam
PEOPLE have given many reasons for choosing Tuam as the place to make their home, but as a selling point for the town, “It’s half an hour closer to Donegal” must be unique.
Still, that’s why Little John Nee, entertainer, musician, artist and all-round good guy, focused on this area when he decided to put down roots.
Ten years ago he had been based in Galway for the best part of two decades and needed a permanent home. At that time his parents, Mary and Dick Nee, were still alive and living in their native Donegal and he wanted to visit them as often as possible.
Tuam, on the N17, was the obvious place to look and when he saw the house he now lives in on the Weir Road, he fell in love with it and its location.
He has never regretted his decision. “If I wanted to progress my career, by rights I should be in Dublin, but if I was doing that I’d only be trying to make enough money to come down to the West.”
He has a rehearsal space in his house, and when he gets a show to the stage where it can be previewed by an audience, the Mall Theatre is the ideal venue.
