Caltra advanced in the Senior Football C’ship as Kilconly paid the penalty

A PENALTY GOAL, superbly netted by Man of the Match Shane Hogan, the Caltra right full-forward, was ultimately the winning and losing of this hard-fought SFC clash at Tuam Stadium on Friday evening.
The fact that it came in the final minute of the first half sent Caltra into their dressingroom for the break on a 'high’ and it was bad timing for a gallant Kilconly team who could not recover from that setback, despite their best efforts in the second half.
Having played with a strong wind in the first half, Caltra were in a very good position at the interval, leading by 1-9 to 0-5. Kilconly would be playing catch-up on the re-start.
It was unusual to see a Caltra team playing Championship football with no Meehan in the starting XV. Declan will be back the next day, while Michael was on sideline duty as water steward, supporting the team management and the team out on the field, like the great clubman that he is. Oisín Kelly was also an absentee, because of a knee injury, and Stephen Nolan and Matthew Killilea were out of the action, too.
