Hundreds to climb in memory of crash victim Martin

UP to 400 friends of young Bodane, Tuam, man Martin Naughton (23) who died after a car accident on the N17 at Knockdoe on May 20 last year are keeping his memory alive and helping other crash victims by climbing Croagh Patrick on Sunday June 1 to raise funds for the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire.
As this facility helps many accident victims on the road to recovery, Martin’s family want to do something for the charity in his memory.
While Martin did not survive the crash the family have, in the past, experienced how well the National Rehabilitation Hospital were able to help another member back to health.
Martin’s sister Michelle says that their first cousin’s husband, Timmy Kelly from The Neale, lost his leg when a lorry collapsed on him less than two years ago. Now thanks to treatment in the Dun Laoghaire facility and the fitting of a prosthesis he is back walking and getting on with his life.
Between 300 and 400 people will climb Croagh Patrick in memory of Martin Naughton on Sunday June 1 including many of his friends from Tuam and North Galway and from Super Valu in Ballymote, Sligo where he worked and was popular in the community.
